When the City of West Hollywood’s Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board and Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission decided to collaborate on producing a night of gay and lesbian comedy as part of Pride Month, I was given Mike Player’s name as someone to talk to. He agreed to put a program together, and the result was “Gaylarious!” – a standing-room-only extravaganza featuring The Gay Mafia doing sketches and improv in the first half, and stand-up with Suzanne Westenhoefer and Sandra Valls in the second. The event was such a success that we asked Mike to put together another evening the following year, which was just as riotous: The Gay Mafia once again brought the house down in the first act, with standups Andre Kelley and Karen Ripley doing the same in the second. With funding from the West Hollywood Marketing and Visitors Bureau, Mike and I went on to co-produce the multi-night Outlaugh 2011 and 2012, and Outlaugh Special Events in 2013 and 2014.

Having produced scores of shows and events, and often having to deal with… ahem… divas, I particularly appreciate that Mike is not only thoroughly professional, but also does everything calmly and without drama. Believe me, that makes it a pleasure to work with him – and the fact that the shows are fabulous doesn’t hurt either!

We hosted The Gay Mafia at Sacramento State University on April 19, 2012 as part of the campus’ PRIDE Week. I couldn’t have been happier with how easy plans for the event and the actual event came together. Mike Player was very easy to work with, easy to contact, and always organized and detail oriented. He came through with everything he had promised and more, bringing with him comediennes Diana Yanez and Jennie McNulty. We had a great, lively crowd that enjoyed both the short stand-up comedy segments and most especially the interactive element of the improv segment..

Thank you for coming out, The Gay Mafia! We look to have you out again!

Sincerely,

ArtExplosion is an annual two week GLBT Arts Festival, and the Gay Mafia headlined the 2008 Finale comedy performance at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Having seen The Gay Mafia perform several times before, I expected a night of roll-in-the-aisle sketch and improv comedy, but I didn’t expect them to be so nice and accommodating!

Mike Player was so easy to work with and put together a great performance for us. All the comedians were very talented, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Most importantly, the audience loved them! The night was a great success; we are still getting compliments on their performance. I highly recommend The Gay Mafia to anyone who wants a night of hilarious sketch comedy, and I can’t wait to have them back to ArtExplosion again soon.

Our organization holds an annual comedy night as an LGBT charity fundraiser.  For "Gay Comics Night 2", we worked with Mike Player and The Gay Mafia.  We couldn't have asked for a harder-working producer or a more professional company.

The Gay Mafia acted as the evening's host and performed improv and sketch comedy.  Mike suggested and contacted additional stand-up talent and even supplied two additional comedians the night of the event, when a scheduled comic was suddenly unable to perform only hours before showtime.  Our group's current Executive Committee had no experience whatsoever with comedians, comedy clubs or producing a comedy event and Mike and the Mafia made it seem like the easiest thing we've ever done.

The night was a great success, the audience loved it, and we looked liked seasoned comedy pros.  That everyone behind the scenes donated their time and talent for a good cause is a credit to them as performers and individuals.  I can't recommend The Gay Mafia highly enough.

I am delighted to recommend The Gay Mafia Comedy Company.

Director Mike Player and The Gay Mafia created a presentation tailored to our group's interests for two of our monthly socials this year.  We were so pleased with their work, we booked them for our 25th anniversary celebration.  Using improvisational skills in a theatrical and professional presentation, Mike and his group created comedy shows that delighted our group members and involved us in the evening with a true sense of community.

I am thrilled to have found these outstanding performers and look forward to working with them again.

We would heartily recommend The Gay Mafia to anyone making plans for a special event, social, or private party.
